Two Miles Deep in La La Land (2007-2012), Single Channel 16mm Film Transfer. TRT 3: 31 mins.

Two Miles Deep in La La Land (2007 -2012) is a 16mm experimental short film that foregrounds the pageantry and gendered performativity of the female body within the American urban. The film was shot and directed by me (a then 20-year-old undergraduate student in Fordham University’s Film and Video II course taught by avant-garde Canadian filmmaker Ross Mclaren) as a silent film. In 2012, it was revised and updated to include the birth dates of prominent female figures (family members, abolitionists, literary authors, and feminists) and the resounding quote of Black American author, poet, and activist, Alice Walker: “I want something else, a different system entirely—one not seen on this earth for thousands of years.”
